I’ve been passionate about technology ever since I was very young thanks to the few videogames I was able to play growing up. The way that they’re able to immerse you in a dramatic, interactive experience unlike other forms of media completely fascinated me, and I knew I would be happy to spend endless hours creating masterpieces of my own if I had the necessary skills.
I decided to attend a coding bootcamp, Pursuit, in June of 2019. Afterwards, I continued to learn and grow my skills as a developer on my own, taking advantage of online resources. Afterwards, I was blessed with another opportunity - App Academy. I took notice of the program online, reviewed the curriculum, and knew immediately that it was the chance I've been waiting for. After making it through the rigorous screening process, I was able to secure a $5000 scholarship for the program and finally begin the path to becoming a proper developer.
During my time in App Academy, I learned Ruby, Javascript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, and much more, thanks to all the different projects I created. For example, I developed a clone of the popular social media site Tumblr utilizing React.js for the frontend and Ruby on Rails for the backend, as well as AWS to store images for user profile pictures and home screen banners. A year ago today, I never would’ve imagined I’d be able to do any of that. After this incredible experience, I am confident in my ability to take on my first role as a full stack software engineer.
